Yesenia Fernandez is the Policy Coordinator for Blue Zones Project – Bakersfield. She is excited to join the team and help the Bakersfield community make the Blue Zones pledge to become a healthier place to live.
Before joining the Blue Zones Project, Yesenia worked at Community Action Partnership of Kern for over five years as a WIC Nutrition Assistant and a Health Educator for the CalFresh Healthy Living program. During her time at WIC, she developed care plans for individuals according to the State WIC Branch and CAPK WIC program policies. She also presented group sessions on dietary and nutritional topics concerning women, infants, and children.
At the CalFresh Healthy Living Program, she provided eligible communities with healthy and active lifestyle resources by providing nutrition education and supporting policy, system, and environmental changes to improve access to healthy food and physical activity opportunities.
During her free time, Yesenia loves to spend time with her husband Jorge and their three daughters: Jazmin, Dianna, and Natalie. She spends most of her time at gymnastics practice with the girls but always finds time to bake some goods and cook delicious food!
My Power 9
My favorite Power 9® is “Loved Ones First.” I believe that spending time with family Is so valuable. It’s important to put the phone down, get together, and create some fun, meaningful memories. Putting, “Loved Ones First” Is what keeps our family healthy and connected
